don't mind if i do

Shay in the house at Toads with Fireblossom Friday.

i roll me a slim tube of
tobacco and paper
spark it up and breathe
deep into the void

spill a generous dram of fire
into this bottomless glass
who cares now right?
Uisce Beatha’s irony burns

throw away the cork
night is endless  in the
Spirit World
theme park
for the dead drunk.

notes: Uisce Beatha, pronounced “ish-ka-ba-ha”, takes its name from the ancient Gaelic for “water of life”.

Just to write. To create form from the formless. To somehow step aside from oneself and allow what is there to just be. With no thought for outcome or for response. Just write. How do I open to the flow? How do I write with no judgement? How do I select words? Watch yourself getting in the way. How disciplined must I be to catch myself always? Even now a subtle thought arises that this is good observation. Catch it. This is. Neither good. Nor bad. This is. There is a desire in the way. One that is at the root of my practice of spilling words from the void. My desire is to understand. Somehow when I attempt to understand out loud and in plain sight through scribbling I am doing so from a vulnerable place. Honest.

daff(t) haiku

Dear Haijin, visitors and travelers … Kim is prompting at at Carpe Diem where you can also read her fantastic essay on Haiku and Tanka.
Here is her prompt
I would like the theme to be ‘the poet’s craft’, in which Carpe Diem’s poets express what they think it is, reflecting on their own experiences as haiku and tanka poets.”
So your responses on this beautiful essay by Kim is themed “The Poet’s Craft” reflect on your own experiences as haiku and tanka poets.

{wave}={p.article}

It is the final day of napowrimo and, as has been the case a few times this month, I have chosen to combine prompts from the napowrimo website (something that happens again and again) and Real Toads (on the photo electric effect).
Thanks to all who have visted, liked and commented during this month, to Maureen at napowrimo and to the Toads, all of whom have enriched my own writing process.

dark haiku

Today the napowrimo prompt is interesting.
Have you ever heard someone wonder what future archaeologists, whether human or from alien civilization, will make of us? Today, I’d like to challenge you to answer that question in poetic form, exploring a particular object or place from the point of view of some far-off, future scientist? The object or site of study could be anything from a “World’s Best Grandpa” coffee mug to a Pizza Hut, from a Pokemon poster to a cellphone.
Happy writing!

archaeologists
don’t exist in this future
we did not make it

bone and ash layer
is all that remains of us
winter came for all

alien beings
find no trace of life on Earth
in this dark future

Memory: Agnes Lawrence Pelton

Day 25 of napowrimo and it's the Tuesday Platform at Real Toads.
The artist I am featuring today is Agnes Lawrence Pelton (1881–1961). To visit the WikiArt gallery of some of her paintings, click HERE.

as sleep fell heavy
on my eyes

words began to fade
into view

'pen me'

my mind knew
it was now
i should reach
for paper and pencil

but the desk was
four steps away
and sleep had me
lulled in her
tender embrace

cocooned

surrender inevitable
and those words

became thin ghosts

silent echoes
in a void

there

but not

one pebble

upon the shore

much like
all the others

except

it called to me

i remember that

and now it lies
hidden in plain view

muted

a hundred eyes to see

Margaret is hosting at The Imaginary Garden today.

i.
beauty is in that eye

blossom me vibrant
hue me sea green
earth me in rooted foot
walk your talk now
this moment is a Peacock's dazzle

ii.
blinded with century's brilliant eyes
by Hera's hand we are led
to our cessation at the gate
of eternity's garden paradise
restoration and demise
tango time's cyclic narrative
unfolding and voiding
breath in breath out
